Logistics Network Design Support

The design of the network is the key to a successful logistics system. Since Logistics as a whole span wide and vast, it is important to bring all aspects of Logistics together during the Network Design activity.

As such, the Integrated Logistics model is best suited for Oil and Gas Logistics. Many 3rd party logistics companies sell this model, but in reality, from a project perspective, during operations, the Logistics System is still very much fragmented. inefficiencies in the system and to understand if the logistics company is

operating in the most cost-effective way. It is also important to know if the

logistics personnel within the logistics team have the required technical

competencies to execute their function. Thus, a system evaluation is key in

managing operations costs and identifying cost savings opportunities.

Since the main purpose of starting a company is to make a profit,

companies are constantly trying to find ways to increase profits.

Traditionally, companies always set out to boost their marketing and

advertising campaigns to increase profits, however, whilst sales increase it

Large oil and gas companies have always struggled with their logistics department which resulted in high operating costs. Traditionally employees that were once valuable to the company may be transferred to the logistics department when their roles become somewhat obsolete since the company would keep the employee within the organization rather than letting them go. However, since the employee is not Logistics Professional, they are not able to fully grasp the principles that guide the logistics system.

Additionally, Companies who engage in corporate re-structuring realize that the company will operate more smoothly by them focusing on their core services. For some of these reasons, companies have decided to outsource their logistics function to companies that specialize in oil and gas logistics. By doing this, the oil and gas operator will be able to focus more on manufacturing which would justify outsourcing the logistics function.
